Family Meal Spaghetti


Ingredients:

  • 6 tbsp olive oil

  • 5 cloves of garlic

  • 1 tsp red chili flakes 

  • 1 sprig of basil 

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 onion

  • 28 oz san marzano tomatoes 

  • 1 pack spaghetti 

  • shredded parmesan 

  • basil, for garnish


Instructions:

  1. Add the olive oil, garlic cloves, red chili flakes and basil to a pan. Cook for 15-20 minutes on low heat. Remove from heat and set aside. 

  2. In a large skillet add butter on low medium heat. Slice an onion in half and lay both pieces side down in the pan. Let the onion caramelize until it is golden brown and then remove from the heat. 

  3. To the pan add the san marzano tomatoes. Remove the garlic from the infused olive oil and add this to the tomatoes.

  4. Let the sauce cook for 15-20 minutes.

  5. Cook spaghetti as directed on package and save ½ cup pasta water

  6. Add the spaghetti to the sauce with the reserved pasta water.

  7. Continue cooking the pasta for 1-2 minutes.

  8. Plate the spaghetti and top with shredded parmesan and basil.
